A fire in your pants

A man in Croatia burned his house to the ground....over his underwear. Wow. Apparently he was unable to find a clean pair of underwear, got frustrated, threw all the old, worn out underwear outside and set it ablaze. The fire spread to the house and burnt it to the ground. Remind me to never get so frustrated about underwear that I burn a house to the ground, let alone anything.

The original iPhone

Forget the new iPhone set to come out later this year, I want this one!!

How awesome would it be to have your phone go off in public somewhere to which you reach into your backpack/purse and pull out this giant apple and crack it open? The reactions would be priceless!

This just in...

Target is four times safer than Walmart.

In my own personal opinion Target smells better too. I always smell something weird and nasty whenever I go into Wal-mart. Also I don't like Walmart because the undercut all the other businesses in the area and make them go bankrupt so they are the only option consumers have, but that's another blog for another day.

Just finished making this commercial this morning. For those who know him, John Stearns is the voice talent. Enjoy!

MORE

Being that it is Oscar season and all, I thought I would share with all of you one of my favorite short films, "more". It is an introspective stop-motion short film that shows the toilings and transformation of a factory worker. It was nominated (not sure if it won) for an Academy Award several years ago. This one of very few short films that I continually look for and watch again and again.

You may need to turn your sound up as the audio is on the quiet side.

And the nominees are...

The 79th Annual Academy Award Nominations were announced about an hour ago. It would have been nice to see "Children of Men" with more nominations, but I'm content with the nominations "Babel" and "The Departed" received. The number of nominations for "Little Miss Sunshine" was a welcome surprise. But "Dreamgirls", what the heck? Is it really that good?? I have a lot of movies to see before February 25th roles around. Top priorities are: Notes on a Scandal, Blood Diamond, The Queen and (sigh) Dreamgirls. Who's coming with?

The Nominations

I'm only one movie behind in filling out 8 complete categories already, two of which will be complete with "The Queen". I have a feeling I'm not going to be able to see a whole lot of categories this year; that makes me sad. :(

wow

Meet "Munchkin".

umm yeah, i don't really know what to say.

The Cute Project

I almost threw up at the disgust of such a site. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for cute pictures of cuddly animals, but to go and do nothing but make a site full of these pictures makes me nauseous after looking at about four of them in a row; mostly because I envisioned a room full of teeny-boppers going "awwww" all at once each time.

The Cute Project

I guess I'll have to watch this a few times to make me feel better. I've never been a fan of cats anyways.

Common Courtesy

Everyone has come across the idiot who double parks in the parking lot on a crowded night. I for one have always wanted, but restrained myself, from keying said car; so when i came across this picture online I not only found it hilarious, but I felt vicariously liberated. Also, note the location of this picture: The Irvine Spectrum

The Mighty Ducks

Seriously, people, what is up with them? Have they lost their love for hockey? Are they so dependent on Pronger and Giggy that they can't win without them? Are they so comfortable with their position in the standings that they feel they no longer have to try very hard? I honestly feel it is the latter, but it's a lame excuse. If you're as good a team as The Ducks you shouldn't be losing; if losing is inevitable, then don't lose so badly. The last two games for the team has been horrible. They lost 6-2 to the Blues followed by a 4-1 loss from the Oilers tonight. Seriously, my beloved ducks, start playing hockey again. I miss the wins and excitement and I want to see you holding that beautiful Stanley Cup.

On top of the world

I figure one of my life goals should be to climb to the top of Mt. Everest. I already enjoy rock climbing and hiking, so why not take on the biggest of them all, right? Here's a view from the top:

Now just imagine what that must look like in person. Amazing.

Real life Halo suit

This inventor guy is my hero. He's invented a full lightweight bulletproof body suit that resembles the spartan suit that master chief wears in halo. He is hoping to get a contract with the military in which he says he can reproduce them for as little as 2000 bucks a piece. For what it is, I think it's a bargain. Despite how crazy and feature rich the thing is, it only weighs in at 40 pounds. I want one!!

From bears to bullets

No sandcastles allowed

Apparently the producers of Lost are planning an end date for the series. They haven't chosen a date or an end season yet, but they plan on doing so. This idea is kind of bittersweet for me. Lost is one of my favorite shows; I put it up there with 24, it's great. I don't, however, like it when a show goes on forever and turns to crap. A prime example would be "Alias". Alias was one of my favorite shows but turned into a flaming pile of crap early into season 4. The first 3 seasons of Alias were amazing, but when season 4 rolled around I began to watch it in hopes of it getting better; it didn't. The article I linked below goes into all the details with an example of JK Rowling and her writing Harry Potter which I find to be a great analogy to the situation. I'd much rather have fond memories of a show that ends strong and at the right time than a show that flops around like a fish out of water trying to get more viewers before it dies. Lost, you are a great show, but I personally think you should end at season 5 the way things are going right now. You are introducing too many characters with weak explanation and forcing viewers to follow you instead of encouraging them to chase after you. SPOILER WARNING: Please don't show me any new colonies of people on the island (or adjacent island) this season. It's too much of a stretch for me. Take me back to the mysteries of the main island and that big black ghostly thing and polar bears. Those are the things that intrigue me. END SPOILERS However, I can't wait for you to return this February. I have been "lost" without you.

Favorite quote from article: "We don't want them to be building sandcastles next week."

I think I would do okay

I've built many computers in my day, enough that I honestly think I could do it blindfolded; it would take longer, of course, but I'm sure I could do it.

Is it overly nerdy of me that I would find it fun to compete in a PC building contest? Does this look even mildly fun to anyone else?

Only 6 more days...

...until the 6th day (season) of 24. i'm stoked to see that they are going to be making it a non-stop season like they did last year. oh and did i mention that this weekend is a 4 hour premiere. so exciting.

i found the 10 minute prequel for the 6th season that takes place starting at the end of season 5. it's way cool. enjoy! i sure as heck did.

Super Incredibly Stoked

One of the many film classes I had in school was a New Asian Cinema class I had over my winter break. I saw many a splendid film and fell in love with a special one called Tears of the Black Tiger which came out in 2000. I scoured all over the internet for a place to buy this film but was unable to find a real copy that would play in the US. So I settled on paying for an over priced, converted from VHS and imported/pirated copy of the film; I wanted it that badly. The film is absolutely hilarious and absurd at the same time. Think of a movie like Kung Fu Hustle but instead of a martial arts movie, make it a cheesy western....with Vietnamese people drawing their mustaches on. Now you know what I'm talking about. Well people, I just discovered that it is getting a limited release in the US this Friday!!!!! I'm so stoked you don't even know. Who will come see this with me? This movie is on the top of my things to do.

Children of Men

If you haven't seen Children of Men yet, go see it now. I have two reasons for you.

1) The movie is amazing. Alfonso Cuarón directed an incredible film which gripped me the entire time from start to finish. I was absolutely blown away by the cinematography of the film and you will be too. Not necessarily the look of the film (which is also amazing) but also the choreography of what happens in a single shot. I almost peed my pants watching it and thinking about how hard it would be to pull off. Oh, did i mention it was amazing?

2) It looks like Universal is going to dump this film because it got beat out by a CG dinosaur movie and Will Smith opening weekend. It might only be in theatres for a couple more weeks before it is forgotten. It had better not be forgotten when Oscar season roles around!

Seriously, people, go see it now! Local show times near you.

Star Wars TV show

Okay. So apparently, the fact that George wants to step away from making more Star Wars movies doesn't mean that he won't make a TV show. I'm all for the TV show so long as it's GOOD. If it's anything like Episodes 1 or 2, it'll flop like a fat man diving in the pool. I'll be okay with it if, in the very least, it's like Episode 3, except I won't allow Georgy to write it; I don't want to hear any more lines like "I love you because you're beautiful." Gag me. Oh, and how dare it even be compared to Firefly.

Lucas: Star Wars TV Show Will Be ‘More Adult’

Who am I forgetting?

I posted a bunch of links to friends' blogs, but I know I have more friends out there who blog. Tell me who they are so I can include them!

Completely Overwhelmed

Those of you who know me well already know what this post is about from the title. For those of you who don't know, I am pretty much the most stressed and overwhelmed that I have been in my entire life. About a week ago my computer decided to die. The motherboard fried itself and took out a hard-drive with it; I lost a ton of stuff when that happened.... 250gigs to be exact. The most important thing I lost was a movie that I had spent many months working on. The entire thing is gone. So today (yesterday for you, also my B-day) I drove up to LA to get replacement files for the movie which was the earliest day I could get them. The film needs to be done on the 6th. So I have 2 days to do months and months of work. Yeah, my life kinda sucks right now. I'm pretty sure I can get it done; I just need lots of prayer and caffeine.

Reading this, I'm sure, begs the question... "Why are you posting a blog and not working on it right now?" I have two answers for you. 1) I'm not working on it right now because my computer is busy doing other stuff with the movie. 2) I'm posting the blog because I need something to do so I don't fall asleep.

Watering eyes and nose hairs

Will someone please tell me why your eyes water when you pluck out a nose hair? I really want to know. I've searched online for about 30 minutes and come up dry. I'm looking for a medical reason; I'm really curious. I would also like to know why your nose runs when it's cold outside. I'm completely serious. I even tried looking through medical journals online to find out why with no luck.

In case you guys were wondering what I'm thinking about when I look like I'm deep in thought, it's this kind of stuff. Sorry to disappoint.

In case you get bored...

...or want to procrastinate or like ridiculous internet flash games, you should check out this crazy game. You, as a hippo, run around at the north-pole killing eskimos and baby seals to gather warmth whilst running around collecting toxic sewage and uranium. You gotta hurry though, you need to make it to the helicopter at the end of each level before you freeze to death.

pan's labyrinth

This movie just opened for the general public on the 29th and I'm really excited to see it. It has been getting rave reviews all around and has been winning many awards in the festival circuit. It's the grown-up version of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Who wants to go see Pan's Labyrinth with me? Check out the trailer here.
